Bayou Music Center: Triple Threat
The Bayou Music Center used to be the Verizon; national/international acts come to perform. It’s next to Houston’s Hard Rock Cafe, around the corner from the Sundance and across the street from the Wortham Center. Do you know the place? Maybe. Have you seen an art exhibit there – NEVER!
In the true spirt of “it takes a village”, a lot of people had to come together to make this happen. The organizers of this unique (yes, I’m using the term correctly to describe something that hasn’t happened before) event included Daniel Anguilu, Ashley Claypoole, Drew Dixon, Sobie Malik, Shelby-Nicole, Dandee Warhol. “Triple Threat” transcended the typical Houston art scene.
The event shows work of three artists, Warhol, Shelby-Nicole and Daniel Anguilu from tiny wall pieces to 8′ x 4′ panels. The 8′ x 20′ Anguilu was supposedly going for $2000. Warhol’s pieces ranged from $500-$7000 with many being sold.
I’ve talked to many people over the years who fantasized about producing this kind of event. Warhol is the one that delivered it, however. I wish Houston had 4 Mr. Warhols but I’m happy with the one we do have!
