Phoenicia Specialty Foods: Love Street
This exhibit, engineered by artist Michael Macedo Meazell, is hard evidence that Houston’s art scene is busting at the seams. The execution of this very high quality exhibit in such an unexpected location brings me to ask you a question. Do you know the equation that describes a visual art exhibit? It is:
Art + Walls = Exhibit
Sounds simple? Well, a couple qualifications are necessary for the equation to work. First of all, the art has to be in the hands of people who understand how to install it properly. Second, the walls need to be owned by people willing to extend themselves further than normal to work with the art they will display. I’ve known several “art” people and “wall” people who thought they could make an exhibit only to learn it takes A LOT of unseen, unappreciated effort!
However, when all those things come together, you have the opportunity to see a show such as this Love Street. Meazell has a lot of experience in producing art exhibits and all those skills are evident to me in this one. In particular, EVERYONE at the opening was talking about the wall tags he made. They are actually pads of paper with the artist information that you can take with you. Mad props to Meazell for this innovation!

This is pretty amazing. I had no idea being out in the outlying fringe of Houston! You are my eyes on art Matt!
So happy to find this. Food for the body and art for the soul…..nourishing on both accounts.
