Robin Baker
I hope you remember a while back when I introduced you to Robin Baker, a figurative artist with a penchant for males in stark black and white. There’s no greyscale here, it’s just pure black and white (maybe a commentary on the male psyche?) except for “Bramble Face” which has grey on the right half. This highly graphical, abstracted style is captivating and sometimes surprising.
Baker is an example of “artistic durability” in that he’s been creating work for years in a true, distinctive style that is his voice. As an active participant of the artist community at Hardy Nance Studios, he spends time helping others and supporting his fellow creatives. His open, willing, positive attitude makes for an enjoyable studio visit.
I was quite excited to learn that he’s starting to explore the medium of ink on paper after years of acrylic on canvas. Generally when an artist changes medium it can be enjoyable to watch and iffy when it comes to success. Baker’s ink works, I think I saw just 10, has a couple standouts in particular, “Men in Pants” as shown below.
