Peppershade Art Mixer: Jacob Spacek
Peppershade is a 2-man organization that has, for the previous 5 weeks, brought artists into a bar to do live painting. They are both very nice, thoughtful and seemingly committed gentlemen seeking to make opportunities for artists. As you know, I think highly of such people. With that said, the bar they’ve chosen has bad drinks and the music is quite overwhelming, especially for a Monday night. IMHO, of course!
Watching Jacob Spacek taking the, in his words, “shotgun approach” to painting made the loud music and bad drinks bearable, though. He brought a stack of 12″ x 12″ boards, paint supplies and a large box of objects such as beer cans, a baseball mitt, a spool of thread and a harmonica. Prior to the event, he invited others to bring their own objects and he’d paint those, too. Then, for $25, he painted each object.
When he was done with other people’s objects, he dug into his own box and just kept going. And going. In 2.5 hrs, he had completed 18 pieces. The plan was to continue for 5 hours (although I left early)!
I’m not sure I’ll go back for Peppershade events on future Mondays at Epic 22 Lounge, but I’m very glad to have seen Spacek in action. It was also fun to have seen art in this alternative space after seeing so many formal spaces such as museums and galleries lately.
